2025 Fall Band Audition Results (coming soon)
*Congratulations on your band and chair placement! As always some of you may be disappointed in your placement from this recent audition. Be sure you think about how much time you prepared for this audition. Did you ask for help? When did you begin practicing prior to the scheduled audition? If you did your best, that is all you can do. You can only control your level of effort. We do not and cannot take into consideration anything else but your performance on that one audition and place everyone accordingly on how they performed that day. Make plans to work harder and longer on your next audition if you’re not satisfied with this one. Every one of you are an important part of the Grissom Band whether you are first chair or last chair. You all play an important role. It is you that makes this band program successful and we thank you for being a part of this organization that is bigger than yourself.
The counselors have your names and which band class you need to move to if needed. They will have checked all possibilities and make it the easiest transition as they can for you. There is no need to call or email your counselor. They have been helping us do this for MANY years. In the old days we would have up to 50+ changes at the semester. This is what is best for each of you and the band program.

Percussion requirements for summer camps, rehearsals and performances.
Sticks/ Bass Mallets
For the purpose of practice pad work, everyone will need to have a pair of these.Vic Firth Corpsmaster Signature Snare Sticks - Ralph Hardimon - Wood Tip
You can get them anywhere online for $14.99, or you can get them at Gadsden Music for around $12.00. These are the sticks the snare players will use this year. It is a good stick at a good price. We recommend the snare players buy 3-4 pairs at least. If you buy over 3 pairs on Sweetwater.com, the pricing drops a dollar. This might be the same for other online sites.
Tenors will need a pair of Ralph Hardimons for practice pad work.
Basses - We will use what we used last year.
Bass 1 - Innovative Percussion FBX-1 ($35.49)
Bass 2 - Innovative Percussion FBX-2 ($36.95)
Bass 3 - Innovative Percussion FBX-3 ($39.95)
Bass 4 - Innovative Percussion FBX-4 ($47.49)
Stick Tape
I noticed last year that most people did not know how to tape their sticks/mallets. We will have our sticks taped for all practices and performances. We will go over how to do this when camp starts. Every student will need one roll of white electrical tape and one roll of black electrical tape. They can get this at Lowes or Home Depot.
Practice Pads
We would like to give a couple of different options. If the student is playing snare or tenors, or wants to move up to one of these in the future, we suggest:
Offworld Percussion Practice Pad (V3) - $67.99 on Amazon / Or something similar. Offworld makes several styles of this pad. Grant and I both have one and we've each had ours for 10+ years. It is a really good practice pad. Some of the kids already have this or something similar. This pad gives a similar feel to a marching snare and we can easily hear what they are playing.
For everyone else we recommend Evans RealFeel pads. They are anywhere from 6" to 12" in diameter. $20-$40 price range on Amazon.
